IELTS and PTE are English language tests which are accepted by many institutions and countries worldwide such as New Zealand, Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom (UK). IELTS is provided by British Council and IDP whereas PTE is provided by Peason’s.

Type: IELTS General and Academic (Computer and Paper based). PTE Academic (Computer based).
Purpose: Academic for study and General for residence visa and other visas.
Sections: For IELTS – Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking. PTE – Speaking and Writing together.
Duration: 3 hours approximately.
Results and Validity: IELTS computer based results takes upto 7 days. IELTS Paper based results may take upto 14 days. PTE Academic results take 1-2 days. Both test results are valid for 2 years from the date the test is taken.
Note: IELTS and PTE exams are conducted in authorized test centres only and you can find one near your region when you book the tests from the official website. Beware of people offering results online without having to take exams in authorized centres.

IELTS: During the speaking test, it is a one on one session in a closed environment with an IELTS examiner. The entire session is recorded. During the sessions questions are asked and the candidate has to share his/her thoughts based on the questions for a couple of minutes as instructed by the examiner.
PTE: During your speaking test, speak up to the microphone as other candidates do and you may find it distracting as other candidates are attempting their speaking test too. People find the writing test in PTE easier than IELTS.
